The Ultimate South Carolina Vacation (While Social Distancing)

This year has brought with it a lot of stress and worry about the coronavirus and everything else going on in the world. This summer, plan a South Carolina vacation with your family while being safe and social distancing and making unforgettable memories.

South Carolina Vacation

South Carolina has so many amazing places to visit and fun things to do. It’s quite refreshing after several months of lockdowns and quarantines. Whether you’re a shopping fanatic, beachgoer, golfer, or somewhere in between, there’s something for everyone in this guide. So dive in and learn about these amazing areas in South Carolina and start planning an unforgettable summer. Let’s get started!

Columbia

Columbia is the state capital of South Carolina. Kick around a few days and visit the Riverbanks Zoo, which is one of America’s best zoos. Spend the day outside and seeing all of the different animals. Walkthrough the beautiful botanical gardens. Order some food from one of the amazing restaurants that Columbia has to offer and eat at your Airbnb or hotel room. You can also check out the National Parks for outdoor adventures.

Also, check out the many museums and historic sites to add a little educational fun to the trip. Columbia offers plenty of outdoor activities as well as indoor. It’s a great getaway for people of all ages to enjoy.

Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head is filled with beauty and fun for the whole family. It’s a slower-paced but still quite attractive place. You can spend time hanging out at the beach or even go on a lighthouse tour. There are also several museums to visit and Hilton Head has some fantastic golf courses.

Putt-putt, shopping, spa day. So many things to do at Hilton Head Island! Bring the whole family for a trip to remember. You won’t have time to be bored or hungry with all of the activities and amazing restaurants. Hilton Head Island is only two hours away from Charleston, so you could make a bigger trip and hit both places.

Hilton Head Island has been chosen the #1 Island in the Continental US and #2 Island in the World by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine and Travel+Leisure Magazine. That is quite an honor and makes Hilton Head Island, South Carolina worth checking out.

Charleston

One of my favorite places to visit is the beautiful Charleston. The city is filled with history, beauty, and fun activities. Relax at one of the several beaches, I recommend Folly Beach. It doesn’t get as crowded as the other beaches and one time we went and they played Jurassic World on the shore on a giant inflatable tv, it was so much fun. Don’t worry if you forget a bathing suit or float, etc. there are plenty of affordable shops near all the beaches to grab and last-minute items and souvenirs.

There are numerous unique shops to visit in Charleston, as well as the Market where all the natives sell their hand made goods. Take a carriage ride through the town and learn some of the histories and take in the wonderful experience. Or cool off indoors in one of the many museums. There is so much for kids to do in Charleston. From pirate tours to kids’ museums and arcades and everything in between. There’s also plenty of shopping, golfing, and nice spas for the parents to relax.

If you have older kids, try a ghost tour. You learn a lot about the town and the legends while walking the city streets in the dark. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a great place to spend the day. They have home tours, garden tours, as well as a petting zoo with some pretty awesome critters. Charleston is no stranger to amazing food, they have some of the best seafood I have ever had. There are numerous options for meals to please anyone and everyone.

Greenville

I have always lived about forty minutes from Greenville, so I have visited quite a bit throughout my life. The nightlife is a fun scene as they have so many restaurants and bars to choose from with some of the best food and drinks that you can find. If you’re traveling with the family, check out the local parks in the area. There are numerous bakeries and places to get your sweet tooth fix. Also, the Upstate Children’s Museum is absolutely wonderful. They have so many hands-on exhibits for the kids.

Greenville shopping is impressive as well. Woodruff Rd. has just about any store that you can imagine, as well as numerous restaurants. But, with that comes extra traffic. There are many shops around the city as well as the Haywood Mall. Dave and Busters and Top Golf are fun activities to do with the family. And don’t forget about Frankie’s Fun Park! Also, stop by the Greenville Zoo and visit the animals.

Myrtle Beach

There is so much to do at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. From shows and entertainment to museums and shopping, and of course, beaches. Family Kingdom Amusement Park has more than 35 thrilling rides. Myrtle Beach also has a water park, called Myrtle Waves Water Park and it is the largest water park in the state.

If you’re Ripley’s fan, check out the Ripley’s Aquarium, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium, Ripley’s Haunted Adventure Laser Strike, and Ripley’s Marvelous Mirror Maze. If you’re into adventure, check out the many ziplines, or the 187 ft. tall Skywheel Ferris wheel. Whether you want to spend time indoors or outdoors, there are so many fun things for the whole family to enjoy at Myrtle Beach. Museums, gardens, parks, amusement, shows, dining, and so much more await you at Myrtle Beach.
