Coronavirus Is Here- Now What?!

Coronavirus Is Here- Now what?!

I am sure by now that you have heard about the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19. With increasing exposure in the spotlight lately, it’s hard not to think or worry about it. Some say it’s nothing to worry about, it’s been on the Lysol can for years. Coronavirus has different strains, and the one on the Lysol can is not the one we are dealing with right now.

Some say that the flu and other sicknesses are far worse, so why worry about coronavirus. Or that it’s just the media trying to scare us all. Well, the flu has killed more people. But there are vaccines for the flu and we do know and understand enough about it to get the vaccine and/or how to take care of ourselves and others who have the flu.

I would also like to note, that Coronavirus does not come from Corona beer or Mexico, as some people are seriously worried about it.

What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a new strain of the virus that started in China. Although it hasn’t “officially” been stated how the virus started, it is highly believed to have something to do with experiments gone wrong. Now the virus is rapidly spreading all over the world, many people who have it do not even know they do and are not tested in time (if at all). There isn’t enough information on the virus yet to know the important key facts:

  • What are the symptoms?
  • How long can infections last?
  • Are there any treatments?
  • How long does it take after exposure for symptoms to appear?
  • Who’s the highest at-risk?

The unknown answers to these questions and many others are what makes this virus especially scary during this time. We don’t know the future, and what the virus holds. The virus could be gone in warmer weather or after a period of time, or it could last a while. We just don’t know yet. And that is why it’s so important to be aware and protect ourselves as best we can from the coronavirus.

What Can I Do?

Right now there is no reason to panic and run around thinking the world is ending. It’s not. So first, just breathe. The best thing you can do right now to protect yourself and your loved ones is to wash your hands (especially after using the restroom)! The coronavirus spreads through bodily functions, if someone who has the virus sneezes and you touch the area they sneezed and then touch your face, you will probably have the virus. Also, when using public restrooms, use a paper towel to turn the sink on and off and to open the restroom door.

Stock up on soaps and sanitizers and share them with your friends-seriously. It’s also a great idea to keep hand sanitizer in your car so that after pumping gas, going into stores, and so on so you can quickly clean your hands. Try to stay away from extremely crowded places right now. Also, it’s a good idea (not just for Coronavirus but any life preparation in general for emergency/natural disaster/zombie apocalypse,  etcetera), to stock up on staple foods and first aid items. Just in case. It’s better to be overprepared and never need to use your stash than to not prepare and your family has no idea what to do.

Stocking up isn’t just for the end of time and doomsday preppers. It’s a smart idea. Sort of like purchasing insurance, to have a backup stock for yourself and family- just in case you ever do need it, but you don’t plan that you will have to actually use it.

Lastly

We have had many health issues throughout time (Flu, Ebola, SARS) and we have survived. Just being smart and aware, and washing our hands, can help combat the coronavirus.

I am attaching a free stock-up checklist that I think you will find useful for emergency preparedness. At the end of the day, breathe, don’t be scared and overly stressed, pray, and prepare.
